Manchester United manager José Mourinho could be sacked as early as next week, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who are already nine points adrift of joint-league leaders Manchester City and Liverpool heading into this weekend’s action, welcome lowly Newcastle United to Old Trafford on Saturday evening (17:30).

The Red Devils have not won in their last four fixtures in all competitions, after being held to a disappointing home goalless draw against Valencia in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.

Having won just three of their opening seven Premier League games this season, the report claims Mourinho’s time at The Theatre of Dreams is coming to an end, with the club’s hierarchy losing faith with the ‘Special One’.

Ex-Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss Mourinho could be sacked next week if his side lose to Newcastle tomorrow, with The Magpies currently sat third from bottom in the league standings, without a win this campaign.

Mourinho has won the UEFA Europa League, the EFL Cup and an FA Community Shield at Old Trafford since succeeding Louis van Gaal back in May 2016, and guided United to a second-placed finish in the Premier League last term, albeit a huge 19 points behind rivals and record-breaking defending champions Manchester City.

This campaign, The Red Devils have already been knocked out by Championship outfit Derby County on penalties in the Carabao Cup, as well as suffering three league losses to West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion respectively.

The ‘Special One’ also has a fractious relationship with £89m club-record signing Paul Pogba.
