Liverpool reached the last four of the League Cup on Tuesday courtesy of a hard-fought 2-0 win over Championship side Leeds United at Anfield.
Goals from Divock Origi and 17-year-old Ben Woodburn sealed a semi-final berth for Jurgen Klopp’s men, who will take on Southampton in the last four in January.
Klopp almost led the side to victory in that competition last year, but his Reds team lost in the final to Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City at Wembley.
Nonetheless, Liverpool look more well-equipped to go all the way this season, and they also look like genuine Premier League title challengers having won nine of their opening 13 league games.
Only Burnley have beaten the Reds so far this season, and that was way back in August, and since then Klopp’s men have got the better of Chelsea and Arsenal en route to second place in the table.
They travel to Bournemouth on Sunday looking for fifth win in their last six matches, and the midweek exploits may give Klopp some selection headaches ahead of their trip to the Vitality Stadium.
