Leeds United were well-placed throughout the majority of the Championship season to secure a play-off place, yet a run of one win in their last eight games put pay to that ambition.

And speculation was building in the immediate aftermath of their disappointment that manager Garry Monk would lose his job as a result, what with his contract up in the summer, yet recent reports suggest that the Elland Road hierarchy are having other ideas.

In fact, according to The Sun, the former Swansea City boss is set for a new long-term deal at the Yorkshire club as they target a return to the Premier League after a 13-year absence.

Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani is due to become the sole owner of Leeds in the near future after initially buying a 50% stake in the club back in January, and it appears that he wants to retain Monk’s services for the next five years to take the Whites back to the top-flight.

38-year-old Monk deserves enormous credit for bringing much-needed stability to a club which has been in turmoil on and off the pitch for several years now, leading them to their joint-best finish in the Championship since reaching the play-off final back in 2006, tying their seventh place effort in 2011 but finishing three points better off this time round.

And now it appears that he will, despite recent speculation, be given the chance to take Leeds back to the Premier League under new ownership over the coming years.
