Leeds United are reportedly closing in on a six-month loan deal with a view to a permanent move for Al-Arabi forward Pablo Hernandez, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The former Swansea attacker, who worked with current United boss Garry Monk during the duo’s spell together at the Premier League side, spent most of last season on loan at Spanish side Rayo Vallecano, and is surplus to requirements with the Qatari club.

Monk is said to see the 31-year-old as the ideal player to fill the number 10 role at the Championship giants, and the Spaniard has already completed his medical for the team from Elland Road ahead of his move.

Hernandez, who has four caps for his country, joined Swansea for a then club-record fee of £5.5 million in 2012, and went on to make 71 appearances in all competitions for the Welsh club, scoring five goals, before moving to Al-Arabi in 2014.
