Leeds United are eyeing a swoop for Southampton striker Sam Gallagher, according to reports.

The 23-year-old made just six appearances for the Saints in the 2018/19 campaign with his last coming in the 1-0 win at Brighton at the end of March.

Football Insider report that the former England Under-20 international has been told he can leave St Mary’s this summer and that Leeds are keen.

After being confirmed as head coach for next term, Marcelo Bielsa is now looking to strengthen his squad after missing out on promotion via the play-offs.

Bielsa’s Leeds lost to Derby County in the play-off semi-finals despite an impressive season.

One of the areas the Argentine boss will aim to add to is his striking ranks with the Yorkshire club the second lowest scorers in the top-six this season.

Gallagher, who has two years left to run on his contract with Southampton, scored a combined 19 Championship goals in season-long loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City.

He also played 15 times for MK Dons in the second-tier during the 2015/16 campaign.
