League leaders Leicester City dropped two points in the race for the title last weekend and will want to rediscover some momentum for their final four fixtures. They play Swansea City, who were poor against Newcastle United in their last fixture and whose season is petering out to an uninspiring end.
When looking at Leicester’s remaining games, this home tie against Swansea looks by far the easiest. Therefore, the stakes are very high in a game which could move the Foxes one step closer to a staggering title.
Their last fixture was marred in controversy as debatable referring decisions impacted the outcome of the match. In the end, the spoils were shared and it was the first time Leicester had dropped points since March 1.
It was also the first time their defence had conceded a league goal in five games, in a season where the Foxes have only conceded 33 goals in total.
Swansea on the other hand have conceded 45 and have only ever kept one clean sheet away from home. Their attack is not much better, only scoring 34 this season compared to Leicester’s 59.
Despite this, and their loss to Newcastle last weekend, Swansea have all but maintained their Premier League status for another year and have shown that on their day they can cause anyone trouble. Their victory over Chelsea a fortnight ago demonstrates that.
Top goalscorer Jamie Vardy was sent off for two yellow card offences last weekend and will certainly have to sit this game out. It will be a huge boost for Swansea to have the league’s second highest scorer watching on from the stands.
Since accepting the FA’s further charges for descent, Vardy may also miss his side’s crunch tie with Manchester United next week too.
Swansea on the other hand have no injuries to worry about. They will hope their talismanic playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson will continue his impressive form which has seen the team’s fate somewhat improve in recent weeks.
