Barcelona and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi has won the 2015 Ballon d’Or.

The 28-year-old collected the award for a fifth time at FIFA’s annual ceremony in Zurich on Monday.

Messi has won the award a record five times

Three-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the trophy 12 months ago, finished second, while club team-mate Neymar finished third.

Messi scored 49 goals in the calendar year as he helped the Catalan giants win the Champions League, La Liga, Cope del Rey, European Super Cup and Club World Cup.

USA’s World Cup winning star Carli Lloyd collected the women’s award for the first time, seeing off opposition from the now retired Celia Sasic and Japan captain Aya Miyama.

Elsewhere, four Real Madrid and four Barcelona players made up the FIFA/FIFPro World XI and Goianesia‘s Wendell Lira was awarded the Puskas Award for his bicycle kick.

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique was named Men’s Coach of the Year, while USA’s World Cup winning manager Jill Ellis picked up the women’s equivalent.
