Liverpool could lure these 2 Tottenham players to Anfield in January

Although he probably wouldn’t start for Liverpool, Tom Carroll would bolster Klopp’s midfield options at Anfield.

The 24-year-old has only made three appearances for Spurs this season – the last of which was at Anfield in the League Cup last week.

The young midfielder is unlikely to break into the Tottenham starting eleven any time soon, especially now they are out of the League Cup, so could look for a move away in January to get more first team opportunities.

With Lucas’ contract set to expire at the end of the season, Klopp may need more options in midfield to complement Jordan Henderson, and Carroll could do a job alongside the England international.

He retains the ball well and can attack as well as he can defend, but is also very agile and energetic, something Klopp demands of his players.

It could be a move worth considering in January.

When you say ‘Spurs’ do you mean ‘pay a very healthy price for one of Tottenham’s fringe players’? If yes, then yeah maybe Liverpool could have a chance of signing Tom Carroll (who I’ve always liked, so not slagging him off).

As for Ben Davies, though, forget it…zero chance! Folk don’t appreciate just how important having two regularly used players for each full-back position is for Poch’s system. Or how he likes to have a relatively small squad but with versatile players to keep everyone involved while offering multiple cover for most positions. Davies is young, sees plenty of game time and can cover centre-half. Until Spurs have a better player to step up from the academy, why would they sell Davies? They would only have to go out and buy someone as good and equally happy to play his role.

At 24, Carroll isn’t really that young. I think many Spurs fans had really high hopes for him, and there were the usual absurd labels like ‘the new Xavi’ thrown at him by half-wits. I’m not sure he’d have what it takes to break into the Liverpool first XI, let alone the second XI. He has a single season in the PL at Swansea under his belt, during which he really didn’t shine.

To be honest, I think retaining Allen (unless he was desperate for first team football) would have been a wiser step than going for Carroll. You’ll also have the pleasure of dealing with Levy in trying to prise away a player who only recently signed a new contract. I’d rather have teeth pulled with no anaesthetic than have to do that…
