Manchester United have not had the best of starts to the season.

Expectations were high when Jose Mourinho took over from the sacked Louis van Gaal in the summer and, after three successive wins to start off the campaign, many United fans were expecting a sustained title challenge from their side.

However, since the last of those three wins at Hull, the Red Devils have won just one of their seven Premier League matches – a run which includes a 2-1 defeat at home to neighbours Manchester City and a 4-0 thumping at Chelsea.

United sit eighth in the table, already eight points behind Pep Guardiola’s City at the top, and will go into their match against Swansea on Sunday looking to record a fifth league win of the campaign.

Things have been slightly better in Europe, where they have picked up two wins from their first three matches, and also in the League Cup, where they beat City 1-0 last week to book their place in the last eight.

However, United’s sluggish start has increased speculation about who Mourinho may look to sign in January, and he could target moves for other Premier League players in a bid to bolster his squad.
