Liverpool have enquired about RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, according to German news outlet Bild.

The 23-year-old has scored 56 times in 102 games for the Bundesliga club and has cemented his place as Germany’s first-choice forward.

Reports have strongly linked the prolific star with a switch to Bayern Munich but they are now expected to offer Robert Lewandowski a new contract.

This has suggested that they may no longer attempt to move for the man who’s lit up the Red Bull Arena.

Werner’s contract expires in 2020 and with doubts over whether he’ll pen an extension, it’s claimed Liverpool have indicated their interest in purchasing the ex-Stuttgart man.

Werner has scored nine times in 23 matches for Germany.

Despite having just 16 months left to run on his deal, it’s thought the club will still want around £51.5 million for Werner.

A move to Anfield would see Werner reunited with former Leipzig teammate Naby Keita, who describes the attacker as “one of my best mates.”
