Liverpool are keen on signing Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, according to reports.
The Reds are looking to bring in a new stopper before Thursday’s transfer deadline after agreeing a fee with Club Brugge for the sale of Simon Mignolet.
And the Liverpool Echo report that the England international is the man they want to replace the outgoing Belgian.
It’s claimed that Jurgen Klopp was looking to keep Mignolet as back-up to Alisson Becker but that the 31-year-old wanted to depart in order to get regular first-team football.

Speculation over McCarthy’s future at St Mary’s grew over the weekend when the 29- year-old was left out of the Saints’ squad for the 2-0 friendly victory against FC Koln.
The former Reading and Crystal Palace goalkeeper signed for Southampton in 2016 and has played 48 times.
However, the Guildford-born stopper lost his place in the starting XI to Angus Gunn following the appointment of new boss Ralph Hasenhuttl in December.
It’s also claimed that Liverpool are considering other targets, including Adrian, who is available on a free after leaving West Ham United this summer.
