Liverpool comfortably dispatched rivals Everton 3-1 at Anfield in the 228th Merseyside derby this afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp’s men took an eighth minute lead through Sadio Mane’s 13th Premier League goal of the season, only for Ronald Koeman’s side to hit back through Matthew Pennington after 28 minutes.

However, the visitors were level for a matter of moments as Philippe Coutinho netted a wonderful solo goal to restore the home side’s lead, before Divock Origi secured the three points for Klopp’s men on the hour.

It means that the Reds are up to third in the Premier League table, but more importantly, they are now seven points clear of Manchester United, although Jose Mourinho’s men will have the chance to cut that gap back to four points by beating West Brom this afternoon.

Nonetheless, it was an excellent performance from Liverpool earlier today, and one man in particular stood out for his match-winning display at Anfield – Coutinho.

The Brazilian international has struggled for form since returning from injury back in January, but he was at his brilliant best against Everton this afternoon, and several Liverpool fans took to Twitter to revel in the 24-year-old’s performance against the Toffees…

And one Reds supporter urged the club to do whatever they could to keep hold of the attacker, who has recently been linked with a move to Barcelona…
