Liverpool have reportedly been handed a boost in their pursuit of Italy international and former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi.

The Premier League side, who lost 3-0 at newly promoted Watford last weekend, have been monitoring the Fiorentina forward for the majority of this campaign ahead of the forthcoming January transfer window.

The 28-year-old, who has 29 international caps for his country, has scored two goals in 14 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit so far this season.

With rivalling interest from Italian clubs Bologna and Sampdoria; Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are understood to have been given the go ahead to try and sign Rossi next month after the striker’s agent, Federico Pastorello, stated, “He will 99 per cent leave Fiorentina in January.”

Rossi, who is valued at around £18m, netted four goals in just 12 first-team appearances for United during his three-year spell with the Red Devils between 2004 and 2007.

There is no way on earth that FSG will pay £18M for a player who will be 29 in February.
