Liverpool have reportedly made a £5.6m approach for Argentina striker Lucas Alario, according to Infobae (via Football Insider).

The Premier League side, who currently sit ninth in the standings following last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to the hands of Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium, have been impressed by the forward’s performances this term for River Plate.

The 23-year-old, who began his career at fellow Argentine club Colon, has impressively scored ten goals in 22 appearances for the Primera Division outfit this season.

Alario, who lined up against former Reds star Luis Suarez in the FIFA World Club World Cup back in December, only arrived at River Plate last summer.

However his goalscoring exploits have caught the eye of Liverpool’s recruitment team, with manager Jurgen Klopp understood to already be thinking about his player overhaul ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

The likes of Christian Benteke, Daniel Sturridge and Lucas Leiva have all been linked with moves away from Anfield this summer.
