Defender Jose Enrique has failed to make a single Premier League appearance this season.

With a severe defensive injury crisis arising at Anfield, it is unlikely Reds boss Jurgen Klopp can afford any of his out-of-favour defenders to leave the club before the January transfer window deadline.

But should the German manager recruit extensively this month, one player that could be on his way out of Merseyside before Monday, February 1 is left-back Jose Enrique.

It is understood that the Spaniard is free to pen a pre-contract agreement with another club as of this month whilst his five-year stay with Liverpool continues to ticks down.

The 29-year-old; who joined the Reds from Newcastle United in a deal worth £7m back in August 2011, has made just one first-team appearance for the Premier League side this season, coming in their disappointing 2-2 draw in the third-round of the FA Cup at League Two Exeter City last Friday night.

Having failed to work his way into Klopp’s first-team plans since his arrival back in October, Enrique will become a free agent in the summer as youth academy graduate Brad Smith is seemingly preferred as Alberto Moreno’s deputy at left-back this term.

However Enrique, who is reportedly on £65,000-a-week, is thought to be interesting West Brom this transfer window in regards to an initial loan deal.

Tony Pulis’ side were also rumoured to be interested in signing the former Spain Under-21 international during the summer. So with midfielder Chris Brunt regularly deputising as defensive cover in the left-back role this campaign, the Baggies could ask Liverpool a favour in throwing Enrique their way until the end of the season.
