Liverpool are reportedly set to complete the signing of Germany international midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who hosted Leicester City at Anfield earlier this afternoon, have been strongly linked with signing the FC Schalke 04 star next summer, when his contract expires.

The 22-year-old, who has 12 international caps for his country, has scored four goals and provided one assist in 12 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season.

Goretzka, who joined Schalke from Vfl Bochum back in June 2013, has netted 19 times in 130 games overall for the German outfit.

Having already secured a £75m deal for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk ahead of next month’s transfer window, the report suggests Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has pulled off another major coup for the Merseyside outfit by securing the free transfer of attacking midfielder Goretzka next summer.

Premier League rivals Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were also linked with the German’s services.
