Manchester City are reportedly edging closer towards sealing a £50m deal for England international defender John Stones this summer, according to the Mirror.

The Premier League side, who finished fourth in the English top-flight standings last term, have been continually linked with a move for the highly-rated Everton centre-half ahead of the forthcoming 2016/17 campaign.

The 22-year-old; who has 10 international caps for the Three Lions, but failed to feature for England at this summer’s European Championships in France, made 41 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees last season.

However the report suggests that new Everton boss Ronald Koeman is keen on bringing Citizens striker Wilfried Bony to Goodison Park as part of the deal after meeting City official Txiki Begiristain last week.

The 27-year-old, who has 41 international caps for the Ivory Coast and arrived at the Etihad Stadium back in January 2015 in a deal worth up to £28m, scored nine goals and provided six assists in 34 appearances in all competitions for City last term.
