Manchester City are the favourites to land Germany international goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen this summer, according to the Telegraph.

The Premier League side, who currently sit fourth in the English top-flight standings following their most recent 1-0 defeat to the hands of arch rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium, are competing alongside Liverpool for the FC Barcelona star’s signature.

The 23-year-old, who has four international caps for the reigning world champions, has kept five clean sheets in 20 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga giants so far this season.

Ter Stegen; who is unhappy at being used at Barca’s cup ‘keeper so far this campaign, is eager to gain more first-team football past this summer, alerting City and the Reds to his availability.

However the report suggests that the Citizens are on the verge of capturing the German ace for £20m, with the goalkeeper set to arrive at the Etihad Stadium alongside incoming boss Pep Guardiola from FC Bayern Munich.

Until there is a cap on wages the likes of City, Chelski and Arsenal will always beat the likes of Liverpool to the top players. And the London clubs have an extra edge with the fact the Wags all want to live in London.
