Manchester United and Manchester City could go head-to-head this summer in a bid to sign Italy international Angelo Ogbonna, according to The Times.

The Premier League giants, who currently sit fifth and fourth in the league standings respectively, but both locked on 47 points, have been impressed by the defender’s displays in the English top-flight for West Ham United this campaign.

The 27-year-old, who has 10 international caps for his country and could star at the 2016 UEFA European Championships in France, has scored one goal in 22 appearances in all competitions for Slaven Bilic’s side so far this season.

Ogbonna, who arrived at the Boleyn Ground from Juventus back in July, netted the extra-time winner against Liverpool last month to send the Hammers through to the fifth-round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Now the Italian’s impressive performances for West Ham have alerted the services of United and City, who want Ogbonna to solve their defensive frailties ahead of the 2016-17 season.
