Fierce rivals Manchester City and Manchester United are set to go head-to-head in a bid to sign Brazil international superstar Neymar, according to The Sun.

The Premier League giants, who currently sit fourth and fifth in the English top-flight after their opening 25 league games, are prepared to splash the cash this summer for the FC Barcelona forward.

The 24-year-old, who has 69 international caps for his country, has scored an incredible 21 goals and assisted 19 further strikes in just 29 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga leaders so far this season.

United were reportedly willing to trigger the Brazilian’s whopping £144m buy-out clause last summer, but a transfer never materialised for Louis van Gaal’s side.

But after neighbours City announced that former Barca boss Pep Guardiola will replace Chilean Manuel Pellegrini as the Citizens’ manager this summer, he has identified Neymar as his top target at the Etihad Stadium before the commencement of the 2016-17 season.
