Manchester United are set to go head-to-head with La Liga giants Real Madrid in an attempt to sign Switzerland international Ricardo Rodriguez this summer, according to SportBild (Sports Image) (via The Daily Express).

The 13-time Premier League champions, who currently sit fifth in the standings respectively after last weekend’s surprise 2-1 defeat at lowly Sunderland, have been linked with moves for the Wolfsburg defender during previous transfer windows.

The 23-year-old, who has 33 international caps for his country, has scored two goals and provided three assists in 24 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season.

Rodriguez; who is predominantly a left full-back, has now come to the attention of Real Madrid, with the Spaniards also ready to meet the Swiss’ £23m release clause at the German side this summer.

He has scored an impressive 19 goals in 145 first-team appearances for Wolfsburg since arriving at the club from FC Zurich back in January 2012.
