Manchester United could reportedly stump up a hefty £14m fee if they wish to offload Germany international star Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who finished fifth in the English top-flight standings last term under former boss Louis van Gaal, could decide to sell the central midfielder after a disappointing debut campaign at Old Trafford last term.

The 31-year-old, who has 120 international cap for his country and helped Germany reach the semi-finals of EURO 2016 in France earlier this month, scored one goal and provided two assists in 31 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils last season.

Schweinsteiger, who recently married Serbian tennis ace Ana Ivanovic earlier this week, is understood to be receiving interest from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

The report suggests that United would have to fork out £14m to axe the German star, who still has two years left on his current deal, although the player is refusing to quit the club.

Schweinsteiger arrived at Old Trafford only last July after sealing a £15m switch from Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Munich.
