Manchester United are reportedly in pole position to land England defender Michael Keane, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Premier League side, climbed up to sixth spot in the English top-flight table following Sunday’s 3-1 victory away to Swansea City, have been linked with re-signing the Burnley centre-half during the forthcoming January transfer window.

The 23-year-old, who is yet to feature for the senior England side, but is in the Three Lions squad to face Scotland and Spain over the current international break, has scored one goal in 11 league games for the newly promoted Clarets.

Keane, who came through United’s youth ranks, waved goodbye to Old Trafford after penning a permanent deal with Burnley back in January 2015, after successful loan spells at Leicester City, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers and the Turf Moor outfit.

However, after a remarkable start to the 2016/17 campaign for Sean Dyche’s side, the report suggests Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is in the running to bring the defender back to The Theatre of Dreams in the new year.
