Manchester United are planning to break their club transfer record by making a summer move for Neymar of Paris Saint-Germain, according to the Daily Record.

Neymar broke the world transfer record when he arrived in the French capital from Barcelona in the summer of 2017 for a fee of £200million.

In his first season at the Parc des Princes, the Brazil international helped them win three domestic trophies including the Ligue 1 title.

However, it was continental success that the forward was brought in for, and the Qatari-owned club were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Real Madrid in the round of 16.

Neymar has 28 goals and nine assists in 35 matches for club and country this term.

The Red Devils, who face PSG minus an injured Neymar at the same stage of this season’s competition on Tuesday, are still unsure about who will be their manager next season.

However, the club board agrees that they need a big-name marquee summer signing – with Gareth Bale and Paulo Dybala also linked – and the superstar forward would definitely be that.

Having scored in all but two of the 13 league games he has appeared this term, the 27-year-old has helped PSG top the Ligue 1 table by 10 points, but has missed six of their last seven league games due to a broken metatarsal.

He also helped Les Parisiens top their Champions League group that included last year’s finalists, Liverpool and Italian side Napoli.
