Manchester United have reportedly approached to sign world superstar and Argentina international Lionel Messi, according to the Daily Mail.
The 13-time Premier League champions, who defeated Crystal Palace in the 2016 FA Cup final at Wembley last month, but could only finish fifth in the English top-flight standings, have been linked with an audacious move for the FC Barcelona forward this summer.
The 28-year-old, who has 108 international caps for his country, scored a remarkable 41 goals and provided 26 assists in 49 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga champions this season.
Messi, who has been at the Camp Nou for the entirety of his professional career, is reportedly seeking assurances over his future with Barca, with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2018.
The report suggests that United have already made two approaches over whether the Argentine ace could become available in the last three weeks.
Any potential deal would certainly smash the world record transfer fee of £85.3m after Gareth Bale’s switch from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid in September 2013.
