Manchester United could table a surprise summer swoop for Scotland international defender Andrew Robertson, according to The Daily Star.

The 13-time Premier League champions, who defeated title contenders Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford on Sunday, are thought to be interested in recruiting the Championship left-back who has been consistently impressive for Hull City since arriving in English football back in July 2014.

The 21-year-old, who has eight international caps for his country, has scored two goals and provided four assists in 36 appearances in all competitions for former Red Devils Steve Bruce’s Tigers so far this season.

Robertson, who joined Hull in a deal worth £2.85m from Dundee United, was watched by United’s scouts during their league encounter against Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this month.

Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal was on the lookout for a new left-back during the January transfer window, especially with first-choice Luke Shaw still out injured, but the club failed to bring anyone in before the deadline.

However the reports suggests that United could face stiff competition from the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and arch-rivals Manchester City if they firm their interest with a notable bid this summer.
