Germany international midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has reportedly emerged as a surprise summer transfer target for Turkish giants Fenerbahce, according to AMK (via the Express).

The 31-year-old, who has 114 international caps for the reigning FIFA World Cup holders, but is currently ruled out with a medial collateral ligament problem, only joined Premier League giants Manchester United last summer.

Schweinsteiger, who arrived at Old Trafford back in July 2015 from Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich in a deal worth a reported £6.5m, has scored just one goal and provided two assists in 31 appearances in all competitions so far this season for Louis van Gaal’s men.

The report suggests that Fenerbahce are ready to offer the German star a swift Premier League exit once the current 2015-16 campaign has drawn to a close, with the World Cup winner possibly available for as little as £5.5m.

United have sold to Fenerbahce in the past, offloading winger Nani and striker Robin van Persie last summer for a combine fee of £8m.
