Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez wants Rangers star striker star Alfredo Morelos

Newcastle United are targeting Rangers star Alfredo Morelos, according to reports.

The striker scored 30 goals in all competitions for the Ibrox side this season and has struck 47 in all since joining from HJK for a fee of around £1million in 2017.

But Colombian outlet DonBalon report that Steven Gerrard could be set to lose his main man with the Magpies set to launch a £20million bid as they attempt to bring the forward to the Premier League.

Rafa Benitez will be hoping the takeover of Newcastle goes through.

Rafa Benitez is looking to bolster his squad and looks set to be given funds with the Bin Zayed Group on the verge of completing a takeover.

Morelos was the subject of bids from Chinese clubs in January and has also been linked with Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Leicester City.

The 22-year-old, who has three caps for the Colombia national team, was sent off five times in the 2018/19 campaign.
