Newcastle United are reportedly the frontrunners to sign England international Jonjo Shelvey.
The Premier League side, who lost 1-0 to West Brom on Monday afternoon, are keen on snapping up the wantaway Swansea City midfielder during the January transfer window.
The 23-year-old, who has six international caps for the Three Lions, has scored once and assisted three goals in 16 league games for the managerless Swans so far this season.
Shelvey; who arrived at the Welsh outfit from Liverpool for a reported £5m back in July 2013, has been linked with a move away from Swansea in January after reportedly falling out with chairman Huw Jenkins over the dismissal of former manager Garry Monk this term.
Steve McClaren’s Magpies currently lie two points adrift of safety in 18th place in the Premier League table, once spot below Swansea.
