Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Argentina international defender Lucas Orban before the close of the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

The Premier League side, who currently sit two points adrift of safety in the relegation zone, are understood to be in talks with Valencia over a potential loan deal for the left-back.

The 26-year-old, who has two international caps for his country, has made 19 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga side this season.

Orban, who joined Valencia from Bordeaux in a deal worth £2.5m in 2014, is understood to be out of new boss Gary Neville’s first-team plans for the Spanish top-flight outfit in the near future and is willing to seal an exit before Monday’s deadline (23:00 GMT).
