Name: Alan Dzagoev
Club: CSKA Moscow
Following three consecutive defeats in the Premier League; Newcastle United face a huge task of preserving their top-flight status for a seventh successive season as the Magpies currently sit two points adrift of safety in 19th place.
But in a bid to keep the club afloat come May, Steve McClaren’s side have been linked with a £10m move for Russia international Alan Dzagoev.
Defeats to Everton, West Brom and Arsenal have highlighted the sincere threat of relegation surrounding St James’ Park this campaign, meaning Newcastle need to recruit wisely in the January transfer market in their attempts to beat the drop with only 18 games remaining.
The 25-year-old, who has 48 international caps for his country, has scored once and assisted three goals in 17 league games for CSKA Moscow so far this season.
The Beslan-born ace burst onto the Russian Premier League scene back in 2008 when he starred in the Russian Cup Final as Moscow saw off Amkar Perm.
However it was Dzagoev’s impressive 2012 UEFA European Championship campaign for Russia that saw his name hit the headlines, scoring three tournament goals for his country to finish as joint-top goalscorer alongside the likes of Mario Mandzukic, Mario Gomez, Fernando Torres, Mario Balotelli and Cristiano Ronaldo.
