Player of the Month: Adam Armstrong (Coventry)

Newcastle loanee Adam Armstrong has been in lethal form for the Sky Blues, netting five goals in his first five appearances. After scoring a clinical brace on the opening day against Wigan he repeated the feat in the 4-0 thrashing of Millwall, including a truly sensational lob. Manager Tony Mowbray will already be hoping he can keep Armstrong beyond the initial period until January, and if he can, City could have a tilt at the top-six.

Manager of the Month: Dean Smith (Walsall)

Smith has guided the largely unfancied Saddlers to the top of the table after winning four and drawing one of their opening five league games. They have scored 11 goals in the process after finishing the month by hammering relegated Blackpool 4-0 at Bloomfield Road. Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink deserves a mention too as newly-promoted Burton have earned an impressive 12 points in their opening five fixtures. But Smith also saw his charges beat Championship sides Brighton and Nottingham Forest in the Capital One Cup to set up a third round tie at home to Chelsea. With two home games to come next he’ll be looking to extend Walsall’s lead at the top of the table in September.

Goal of the Month: Romaine Sawyers (Blackpool vs WALSALL – his 2nd)
