Shoot!’s FA Cup Awards (Semi-Finals)

Team of the Round: Arsenal

Monreal (Left).

Like it has been a few time over the recent years, the FA Cup was the last remaining piece of silverware up for grabs to save Arsenal’s season, and this time, potentially Arsene Wenger’s future.

In a season where the team has received more criticism than ever, their bottle, desire and mentality have been the most things questioned by fans. But that couldn’t have been doubted this time.

Trailing to Sergio Aguero’s second-half goal, The Gunners needed to score at least once to at least force extra-time.

The goal came with twenty minutes to go, from an unlikely source as Nacho Monreal netted for the first time since March 2015, which was coincidentally in the FA Cup too.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross was too high for Olivier Giroud, but it was met superbly on the volley by the Spaniard.

In extra-time Arsenal rode their luck, as City hit the woodwork twice through Yaya Toure and Fernandinho.

But in the end, they defied the odds, and defied their critics. They managed to hang on in there and Alexis Sanchez managed to pounce when the ball dropped his way, to fire Arsenal into the final.
