Southampton are reportedly closing in on the £10m signing of Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman has been looking for a centre-back ever since last season’s loanee Toby Alderweireld decided to move to Tottenham instead, and he now looks set to bring his fellow countryman to St Mary’s.

The Dutchman will be the third player in three summers that the South Coast have brought in from the Bhoys, with Fraser Forster and Victor Wanyama joining the Premier League club in the previous two years.

Van Dijk made 58 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish Premiership champions last term, scoring an impressive 10 goals.

    Southampton are so unprofessional. This chat shouldn’t be public. They need to stop talking about other teams players while Celtic have important Champions League games to take care of. Celtic should maybe sell him, but to a club that conducts themselves in a better manners (aka, in private).

    Drew, do you know for a fact that this story is:
    1. Not media speculation;
    2. Not leaked by Celtic to attract a higher competing bid (Everton);
    3. The players agent to attract a higher competing offer/salary;
    4. or The player not containing his excitement by telling friends or family which eventually finds its way into the press?
