The £13m summer buy is in contention to be awarded the Premier League club’s Player of the Season award after enjoying a delightful debut term at St Mary’s Stadium.

The 24-year-old, who has three international caps for Holland, has scored three goals in 26 league appearances, whilst forming a formidable and resolute partnership with skipper Jose Fonte.

Name: Ryan Bertrand
Position: Defender

Perhaps more perceived as an unsung hero for Southampton so far this season, the left-back’s defensive expertise and ability to get forward for the Saints has largely gone unnoticed.

The 26-year-old; who has seven international caps for England and is hopeful over being selected for the Three Lions’ squad to compete at Euro 2016 this summer in France, has provided four assists in all competitions this campaign, whilst most importantly helping goalkeeper Fraser Forster keep a flurry of clean sheets in 2016.

Name: Shane Long
Position: Forward

With the goalscoring form of striker Graziano Pelle taking an inconsistent turn during the 2015-16 season, the Republic of Ireland international has stepped in to spearhead Ronald Koeman’s side on numerous occasions.

The 29-year-old has already surpassed last year’s tally of seven strikes in all competitions, reaching double figures (10) so far, including his brilliant brace against Arsenal in Southampton’s 4-0 thrashing of the Gunners on Boxing Day.
