Tottenham are reportedly favourites to sign FC Basel prodigy Breel Embolo.

The Premier League outfit sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old Switzerland striker score twice against Luzern at the weekend, with boss Mauricio Pochettino eager to bring in another forward before the close of the transfer window.

Embolo, who already has three international caps, scored 17 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions last season for Swiss Super League outfit Basel.

The youngster is fast becoming one of Europe’s hottest properties, although Spurs may face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Aston Villa, West Brom and West Ham United who have also shown strong interest in the past.

Well, a shame that all the english teams with their TV money now chase youngtalents throughout europe. It´s not just abvout the money, it´s also about the people. Why should Embolo join Tottenham? To sit onthe bench as 2nd or 3rd option. Too often, teams from england have ruined careers from young players buying the as a backup, but not realy giving them a chance: be that international or english talents. So please keep your money for bad times (they will surely come) and try some honest work on developing talents: european and also english. Then – maybe – you may have a chance again on having an international competitive national football team.

Any team from any part of Europe who found themselves participating in a cash-rich league would do the same, including the Swiss – it’s called human nature. Besides, Spurs have one of the best youth academy systems in Britain and have promoted numerous players from this academy (check the first team squad lists). But human nature also includes bemoaning a situation when you’re on the wrong end of things. I understand what you’re saying but you would do exactly the same as Spurs or any other EPL team in the same situation.

FC Basel is known throughout Europe for its great, enthusiastic football and for its model to develop young players. To give them time to grow, to learn, to cope with pressure. Contrary to the english football of the last decades. A football that hires and fires players at will. Count the english players in the premier league. Some of the teams you have a ratio of 1 to 10. What you say is partially correct, its human nature. However, nature builds on a balanced system. Currently, the system surely out of balance. A league distroys that balance if it gives the most unsuccessful team of the league more TV money than a champion of the Bundesliga, or more money as per example an FC Basel has as the budget for the whole year. That leads to the sick behaviour that we currently experience. It leads to it that players are traded for absolutely ill transfer sums, that even average players are awarded 6 digits salaries per week. That destroys football, no more, no less. In the words of a great coach: Flasche leer, habe fertig!
