Manchester United travel to the Britannia Stadium on Boxing Day to face Stoke City on a dismal run of form which has seen them drop out of the top-four.
Louis van Gaal’s men are winless in four, losing their last two, with their 2-1 humiliation against Norwich City at Old Trafford last Saturday having followed a 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth the previous weekend.
The Dutch boss is coming under increasing pressure with speculation mounting that the Red Devils could replace him with assistant Ryan Giggs or ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
Mark Hughes’ Stoke have been inconsistent of late, drawing at West Ham United and losing to Crystal Palace since beating title-chasing Manchester City at the beginning of the month.
However, despite having lost four of their eight home matches, they were the dominant side against the Eagles and will be confident of defeating a United side which has failed to win five of their nine away matches.
The Potters have only beaten their visitors once in the Premier League though; a 2-1 victory at the Britannia in February 2014.
Marc Muniesa and Stephen Ireland are likely to miss the clash through injury, as are Geoff Cameron and Peter Odemwingie.
Jesse Lingard and Matteo Darmian are doubtful for the Red Devils, while Marcos Rojo remains absent along with Antonio Valencia and long-term injury victim, Luke Shaw.
German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will serve the last of his three-match suspension for the visitors, after receiving disciplinary action for an incident against West Ham earlier this month.
