Arguably the best striker in the Premier League against the best defender, Diego Costa’s battle with Spurs’ Toby Alderweireld will go some way to determining the outcome tomorrow night.

The Chelsea striker has scored 14 goals in just 18 league games this season, and netted on his return from suspension in the 4-2 victory over Stoke on New Year’s Eve.

The Premier League’s top-scorer and most in-form forward is going to cause a Spurs defence, which has conceded just five goals at home this season, several problems but in Alderweireld, they have the man to keep Costa quiet.

The Belgian international returned to the starting eleven in the win over Watford on New Year’s Day and, although he hasn’t been at his absolute best in recent weeks, he started the season well, and looks set to be reunited with central defensive partner Jan Vertonghen against the Blues.

Strong in the air, authoritative, and with a great anticipation of the game, Alderweireld has all the qualities to frustrate Costa and minimise his influence.

Whoever has that slight edge on Wednesday could swing the game in their side’s favour.
