The Chelsea front four that could have been if they landed this key deal

Alvaro Morata

Chelsea were linked with a move for striker Alvaro Morata in the summer, but the Spaniard decided to return to Real Madrid just two years after leaving the Spanish capital.

The 24-year-old described the move as him ‘returning home’ after ‘two long years’, yet just six months down the line, it may not have been the dream return he was hoping for, given that he has started just six and been substituted on eight times in their 19 La Liga matches this term.

Add in just one start in the Champions League as well, and Morata is clearly not Zinedine Zidane’s first choice forward, and no wonder when you’ve got the likes of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, and Cristiano Ronaldo in your squad.

His last La Liga start came on December 10, so speculation increased about his future at the Bernabeu, with Chelsea once again linked with a January move for the striker.

However, it wasn’t a deal they were able to get done, yet recent reports have already stated that the Blues will go in for him again in the summer in a bid to strengthen the squad ahead of a likely European campaign next season.
