Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham were Leicester’s nearest challengers in last season’s Premier League, but fell away in the latter stages of the campaign.

Spurs eventually lost second place to Arsenal on the final day of the season, but the White Hart Lane faithful would have been buoyed by an excellent campaign which saw Spurs re-establish themselves as title challengers.

And, based on what we’ve seen so far, they aren’t going to be far away again this season.

Pochettino’s men are the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League having won five and drawn six of their opening 11 league games but, despite a solid start, they’d have hoped for a few more victories from the first three months.

Nonetheless, last season’s best defence has become this season’s best as Spurs have conceded just six goals so far, which is three fewer than the next best, Chelsea.

Those foundations will take Spurs a long way, but whether they can go all the way to the top of the division come May remains to be seen, as Pochettino will likely need to reinforce his squad in January to keep them competitive all season.

Thus, here are TWO players who would win Spurs the Premier League if they joined the club in January…

Neither of these will ever happen. Isco will want a bigger club and will have bigger clubs offering more money. Daniel Sturbridge is too much of an injury risk with not much resale value for Levy to take the chance. Tottenham need another dele alli for them to win the title.
