If David Luiz was brought back to Chelsea in the summer to reinforce the defence, then it’s a transfer fraught with danger.

The Brazilian international has shown in the past that he is not disciplined enough to play at the back, although a role in front of the back four could be the way to go.

Chelsea got a great deal selling him to Paris Saint-Germain for £50 million, and an even better deal getting him back for £34 million, but can he really be trusted to be part of a solid and dependable Chelsea defence? Probably not.

He may do well in a back three, such is the protection in front of him, but the transfer strikes more of a panic buy than one Conte really wanted.
