Nemanja Matic spent two years at Chelsea between 2009 and 2011 before the club swapped him for Benfica’s David Luiz in January 2011.

Nevertheless, Jose Mourinho saw the Serbian international as the answer to his midfield conundrum at Stamford Bridge, and thus re-signed the 28-year-old in January 2014.

And, since then, Matic has been a revelation for the Blues, and was a chief reason for the their title success back in 2014/15 under Mourinho, as he played all but two Premier League games, and was rightly recognised for his excellence by being named in the PFA Team of the Year.

Last season wasn’t his greatest, but the same can be said for many Chelsea players, yet Matic looks back to his best under Antonio Conte this time around, and will likely be an integral part of their title challenge over the next few months.
