Wenger’s £35 million purchase of German World Cup winner Shkodran Mustafi looks to be money well spent.

The 24-year-old earned rave reviews at Sampdoria and Valencia prior to moving to the Emirates in the summer, and has been a regular feature in Joachim Low’s Germany side.

His developing partnership with Koscielny looks like the partnership Arsenal fans have been crying out for for years, although a few nervy displays in recent weeks means that, for some, the jury is still out on Mustafi.

Nevertheless, at 24, he has all the hallmarks of a top-quality centre-back.
