Wenger needs to start thinking about a long-term replacement for left-back Nacho Monreal.

The 30-year-old has been a consistent performer for the Gunners since he nailed down the left-back spot, but there have been signs over the last few weeks that he’s being to struggle with the demands of the role.

The Spanish international was comfortably outplayed by Modou Barrow a few weeks ago, and gave away the penalty against Bournemouth on Sunday, a week after he was fortunate to get away with one against Manchester United.

Thus, Wenger may be tempted to reinforce that area, and he’d do much worse than look at Bayern Munich’s David Alaba.

The 24-year-old is a versatile defender who would give Wenger options all across the backline and into midfield, yet it’s at left-back where many believe he is one of the best in the business.

With United and Manchester City also reportedly interested, it is imperative that Wenger acts fast to bring his man to the Emirates in January.
