It looked for all the world that David Luiz returning to Stamford Bridge was nothing more than a panic buy by Conte and co, given his previous experience and defensive capabilities at Chelsea.

However, the Brazilian international has been a revelation in the Blues’ back three.

Luiz has significantly improved defensively and is still able to retain possession when needed, and also move the ball up the pitch and launch attacks.

Being in the middle of this back three gives him huge responsibility, which it is something he has taken on admirably so far this season.
