Pablo Mari (Arsenal – £7.2million)

Central defender Pablo Mari joined Arsenal initially on loan in January from Flamengo. Despite having only made three appearances due to injury, Mikel Arteta saw enough in that time to want to add him to what has been a leaky backline. The 26-year-old looked commanding when he did play and – in the 204 minutes he was on the pitch – the Gunners failed to concede. Still sidelined he will probably miss the start of the season but could – at £7.2million – prove a great buy once he does return.
