Holmes scored twice in just his second start of the season

In just his second start this season, Holmes scored twice as League Two Northampton drew 2-2 with MK Dons of the Championship.

Trailing 1-0 at half time, four minutes after the interval, the 28-year-old collected the ball on the edge of the area before some neat close control allowed him to create space to curl the ball into the top corner.

Ten minutes later, Sam Hoskins found Holmes on the right side of the area and he fired the ball low into the opposite corner to give the Cobblers the lead.

Eventually the game was levelled at 2-2, with the replay taking place on January 19, but the ex-Portsmouth wide man did his chances no harm of securing a starting place in Town’s XI.
