Reading 5-7 Arsenal – October 30, 2012

Reading were in dreamland for the majority of the first half as goals from Jason Roberts, Mikele Leigertwood, Noel Hunt, and a Laurent Koscielny own goal, put them 4-0 up after 35 minutes. Sadly for the boys from Berkshire, Theo Walcott’s strike on the stroke of half-time proved to be the turning point.

An Olivier Giroud strike quickly made it 4-2 whilst late strikes from Koscielny and Walcott forced the game into extra-time.

Pavel Pogrebnyak equalised for the home side after Marouane Chamakh put Wenger’s side ahead, but it was to be heartbreak for the side from the Madejski as Walcott and Chamakh each struck again, putting the North London side into the next round.

Reading played magnificently for 44-and-a-half minutes, it’s just a shame that football is a game of two halves!
