Top 5: Most disappointing players of 2016-17 Premier League season

Riyad Mahrez

Following Leicester City’s title-winning season, Riyad Mahrez was one of the players to earn a new contract as a reward for his part in their remarkable campaign.

The winger that cost The Foxes just £400,000 impressed hugely scoring 17 times and assisting on 11 occasions.

However, Leicester’s fortunes have changed somewhat during this term and they find themselves just one place and one point above the relegation zone, with the former Le Havre player one of several stars who have struggled during the club’s feeble title defence.

Mahrez has only found the net by converting three penalties and has assisted just twice throughout the whole of the 2016-17 season.

Leicester fans will be hoping that the Africa Cup of Nations may kickstart the Algerian’s season, but it seems likely that whatever form he is able to discover between now and May, the PFA Player of the Year has massively disappointed for the majority of this season.

All involved at the King Power Stadium will be hoping that his form does not affect their chances of Premier League survival.
