King in action for Spurs.

The former Tottenham captain was famously hampered by injury problems, and if it wasn’t for his dodgy knees, he could have been a regular for both club and country.

The centre-back was forced to retire in 2012 and even before then, he could barely train and could only play one game a week.

Once tipped to captain England, King was recognised as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. He made 268 appearances during his 13 years at the club and he received only eight yellow cards, unusual even for a relatively short career.
